The Day I Lost My Closest Friend

Please don’t lock the door
Although I want you to be safe
I was never there for you when you needed me
So, what difference does it make?

You saw that you could do this on your own
I’ve made myself obsolete
I’m standing at the bus stop now,
belongings in hand,
staring at my feet

We bought these shoes together, I thought;
I’m fearful of the pain that will reside
With strangers all around me
These emotions I must hide

I did this to myself;
and I know it
You’re better off alone
I was selfish
I had you
I lost you
The blame is mine to own

I’ll never make this mistake twice
Although I fear I cannot love like this again
I’ve lost the love of my life;
and I’ve lost my closest friend
